Frequently Asked Questions
Is stone to heavy for a wood frame?
When you compare the options to refinish your wood deck you will be surprised that several of our most popular stone finishes weigh less than composite materials such as Treks.
- • Composite Decking: 24 lbs to 26 lbs per square foot (based on brand).
- • Travertine Pavers: 22 lbs per square foot.
- • Porcelain Pavers: 10 lbs per square foot.
- • Engineered Paver Overlays: 28 lbs per square foot.
Will my existing deck support the weight of the stone?
As a standard process GreenDay installs additional posts and footings to insure the tributary area, (load bearing area attributed to each post), meets and exceed all city and state requirements. GreenDay provides a 10 year unconditional warranty for every project we build.
What if the quality of my existing wood deck frame is not in good condition?
As a standard process GreenDay replaces any questionable materials including, floor joists, hangers and supports. In fact, even when in good condition GreenDay will add additional floor joists, posts and footing to insure your project will last a lifetime.
How is the stone applied to my wood frame?
GreenDay installs the GreenGrate™ subfloor system directly on your wood floor joists. GreenGrate™ which is an American-Made product is designed as a structural underlayment (or sub-floor) for elevated wood frame decks. Manufactured from recycled materials, GreenGrate™ is a super strong substrate made of polycarbonate plastic. In fact, it is so strong; it exceeds both residential and commercial building codes
GreenGrate™ applies scientific knowledge and manufacturing expertise to give you a way to create an attractive and maintenance free outdoor living space with luxurious warm feel of brick, natural stone or pavers.
Can the GreenDay system be installed above a walkout basement?
Yes, the GreenDay system can be installed at any elevation.
How expensive is the GreenDay system?
Based on our experience with actual customers the GreenDay system is less expensive then composite deck products. Our system stands at an even greater value when you consider the costs associated with maintenance of wood or a traditional stone patio over time, based on the fact that they both require ongoing maintenance.
What are the advantages of a GreenDay Wood Frame - Stone Finished Patio compared to traditional wood finished decks?
Wood decks can have a negative impact on the resale value of your home based on the perception and reality of costly maintenance and replacement costs by a potential buyer.
Deck boards are known to warp, crack, splinter, split, fade in color and promote mold and mildew. Whereas a stone GreenDay deck is easily maintained avoiding time consuming labor and the costly expense of sealing, sanding and staining year after year. GreenDay wood framed stone decks enhance the appeal and resale value of your home.
What are the advantages of GreenDay Wood Frame – Stone Finished Patio compared to composite decks?
Not only are composite materials bad for the environment they have no structural value, fade, warp and can promote mold and mildew. When you consider the high expense of this stamped plastic decking product vs. a GreenGrate™ stone deck, the proven long term value and enduring beauty of stone is the most cost-effective and a wiser investment that adds greater value to your home. In addition composite deck materials, if installed correctly require the same upgrades to your existing frame as the GreenDay System.
What are the advantages of GreenDay Wood Frame – Stone Finished Patio compared to a hardscape patio?
Prior to the creation of GreenGrate™ a stone deck or patio could only be installed in ground or over a concrete slab. There are numerous disadvantages to this invasive costly construction process. Not only are there an overwhelming number of design limitations with this process it is susceptible to erosion, settling, weed infestation and requires ongoing long-term costly maintenance. Just like your house the GreenGrate™ construction process is built on footers providing you with a piece of mind and ability to enjoy the warm natural elegance of stone with no maintenance needs.
What are the advantages of GreenDay Wood Frame – Stone Finished Patio compared to a stamped concrete patio?
Popular towards the end of the nineties stamped concrete has lost much of its original luster. Like all other concrete surfaces, stamped concrete is prone to flake, spalling, cracking and chipping. Poor durability in the harsh Northeast Ohio winters and difficulty in making repairs have a dramatic impact not only on the appearance, but also on the actual long term value. Like all concrete surfaces the reality of stamped concrete is not if it will crack, but when and how badly.
Why is the GreenDay Wood Frame – Stone Finished Patio the best installation method?
GreenGrate™ provides you a piece of mind and ability to simply enjoy your outdoor living space with family and friends. Outside of an annual cleaning with a push broom and soapy water, the GreenDay system is maintenance free. With no maintenance, think of all the extra time you will have to spend relaxing and the money savings to invest in other projects.
Our installation process is minimally invasive. There is no need for heavy equipment that destroys your yard and the costs associated to repair these areas. The GreenDay system eliminates the problems and maintenance costs associated with a traditional stone paver patio (uneven walking surfaces, water erosion, weed infestation, mold and re-sanding of joints.)
